CLEP Information

CLEP - College Level Examination Program

CLEP credit is credit by examination. Students enrolled at Florida Southern College may earn college credit by reaching the credit-granting scores acceptable by the College on a CLEP exam (see the chart below for accepted test scores). With few exceptions, the test scores are equated with specific courses in Florida Sothern’s current Catalog (see chart below). Currently enrolled and transfer students attempting to earn CLEP credit should first determine their eligibility for credit by completing the CLEP Permission Application form and filing it with the Registrar’s Office. High school students should contact the Office of Admission to determine their eligibility.

Most CLEP exams have a time limit of approximately 90 minutes. Exams with a writing component have a time limit of approximately 120 minutes. All CLEP scores are evaluated by the Registrar’s Office and recorded as transfer credit on the student’s transcript if accepted; therefore, CLEP credit may not be earned during the final 31 hours of enrollment at Florida Southern. CLEP credits earned apply toward degree requirements, but do not affect the student’s grade point average. A student may earn a total of 60 semester hours of credit by examination.

Ordinarily, credit by examination will not be awarded in any area in which comparable college course work or more advanced work has been attempted, (including "Withdrawals). Students who wish to attempt CLEP credit may not remain in the comparable course after the one-week schedule adjustment period is over; otherwise the CLEP credit will be invalid. A complete Guide to the CLEP Examinations is on reserve at the Roux Library or may be purchased at

The cost of each CLEP test includes the following: Testing Fee - $97.00 per test (pay directly on the College Board CLEP webpage) and ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Administrative Fee - $35.00 (charged to your ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Student Account). Please check with the Testing Coordinator for the most up-to-date fees.

If you have any questions regarding CLEP exam information, including resources or scheduling, please contact the Testing Coordinator at testingcenter@flsouthern.edu or 863.680.4299.
