Florida Southern College Celebrates Dr. Martha Placeres' Invitation to Perform Alongside World-Renowned Tenor Andrea Bocelli

Florida Southern College is proud to announce that Dr. Martha Placeres, Chair of the and Director of Orchestra and String Studies, recently performed alongside world-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli in two extraordinary concerts held in Pompeii, Italy.

Dr. Placeres was invited to join Bocelli and the Orchestra Reali Filarmonici (the Philharmonic Orchestra of Naples), along with the That’s Napoli city choir, under the direction of conductor Carlo Morelli. The performances took place on June 27 and 28 at the iconic Anfiteatro degli Scavi (Amphitheatre of Pompeii), a venue steeped in history and recognized as one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in the world.

This prestigious invitation marks a significant milestone in Dr. Placeres’s distinguished career as a musician and educator. Originally from Puebla, Mexico, she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance from the Puebla State Conservatory of Music, a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Texas at Brownsville, and a Doctorate in Orchestral Conducting from Texas Tech University. Before joining Florida Southern as a faculty member in 2019, she previously served as Director of Orchestra and String Studies at both the University of Texas at Brownsville and Washburn University.
